Take an old, vacant Woolworth’s 5¢ and 10¢ retail store,
raise the roof thirty feet, install a completely new mechanical and
electrical system, add a seating wedge, a stage, lights and control
system, a new exterior facade, entry and concession area, and there
you have it - the new Charles R. Wood Theater in downtown Glens Falls,
New York.
Home to the Adirondack Theater Festival, the
299 seat community theater has given new life to the performing arts
and to neighboring businesses in the area. As Construction Manager
for this financially challenged project, MLB contributed consistent
and accurate cost analysis, budgeting and value engineering throughout
a lengthy pre-construction/design phase during which the project
scope underwent multiple revisions. Once the final script was in
place, MLB skillfully executed the complicated construction phase
in just nine months, including the peak of the winter season, to
deliver this handsome, cost effective project in time for the opening
act. The result, a wonderful adaptive re-use of an existing facility
that generations of theater goers will enjoy for years to come.
